Many residents in Sedalia and Pettis County are excited about the new Sedalia high school that is currently under construction on Sacajawea Road. The new school will be instrumental in the continued economic growth of Sedalia, Pettis County and Central Missouri. The school will enhance the educational experience of students in Sedalia District 200 providing them with the most current technology and facilities. Missouri Home & Land Brokers owner/broker Dale Spinar feels privileged to have sold the land on which the school is being built.

During the ground breaking, on Thursday, Aug. 16, 2007, the blazing temperature couldn't consume the excitement felt for the new school. The event occurred at the high school's future location on Sacajawea Road. The Smith-Cotton High School Army Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps flag corps presented the colors at the ground breaking. Sedalia District 200 School Board President Jeffrey Sharp and Superintendent Doug Ebersold spoke at the event. According to The Sedalia Democrat, grades 10 to 12 will attend the new high school that is planned to be finished by August 2009.
